The founding pastor of Tri-City Baptist Church and president of Tri-City Christian School, Pastor E. Alan Cockrell, said that “Building a great church is not my intent, but building a great people is my commitment.” This is why Tri-City Christian School began with the 1971-72 school year with 37 students having just built the “Miracle Building” in 30 days in order to begin the school year in September. Successive grade levels were added until K-3 through 12th grades were included in the 1973-74 school year. (Our day care and pre-school began in 1973.)
In 1977, the need for a high school building was met by the miraculous purchase of a facility on Blue Ridge Boulevard, the Stark Elementary Building. Once again, we were reminded of God’s hand on this ministry as He worked in the hearts of the Kansas City School Board to allow us to purchase the much-needed building. This former school building became the new location for Tri-City Christian High School.
In September 1978, the new building is ready. Just one year later, in September 1979, a branch elementary school began at Tri-City North (now Eagle Heights Baptist Church and Christian School).
In January 1983, after twelve years of service in the Kansas City area, Pastor Al Cockrell resigned, having been called to a church in Florida. Twenty-two months later, on November 27, 1983, Carl Herbster was called to become the new pastor of Tri-City Baptist Church and the president of Tri-City Christian School.
In June 1984, Tri-City purchased 72+ acres of land on Selsa Road, and in June of 1988, a ground-breaking service was held for the new church auditorium. In the fall of 1989, the ministry moved the offices, the preschool, and the elementary school classes to the Selsa Road location.
In the fall of 1992, the high school wing was completed and Tri-City Christian High School officially joined us in the new facility on the grounds with the church.
In 1993 due to the need for classroom space, the junior high moved to the old Tri-City Christian High School location on Blue Ridge Boulevard.
On July 16, 2000, we joyfully dedicated the newly completed gym/cafeteria complex to be used for God’s glory. The junior high joined us at the new facility. The entire school was at the same location. That same year, the address of our ministry was changed to 4500 Little Blue Parkway, Independence, MO 64057.
Tri-City Christian School has maintained a superior education for the past 35 years. Our experienced and caring teachers and staff provide an excellent environment for academic learning and spiritual growth.
