Auditions for the TCCS Drama Department's 2011 production of The Miracle Worker, by William Gibson, are coming soon. The Miracle Worker tells the story of Annie Sullivan and her student, blind and mute Helen Keller. It dramatizes the volatile relationship between the lonely teacher and her charge. Trapped in a secret, silent world, unable to communicate, Helen is violent, spoiled, almost sub-human and treated by her family as such. Only Annie realizes that there is a mind and spirit waiting to be rescued from the dark, tortured silence.
Auditions will be held on August 24-25, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. in the Choir Room. Actors should come prepared to read a dramatic monologue of their own choosing.
The chief focus of the speech and drama department is to help students learn to communicate more effectively. In accomplishing this goal, we trust that they will then use this new foundation to help strengthen their ministry for the Lord. In Speech, students are taught the importance of communicating both their own ideas (public speaking) and the ideas of others (interpretative speaking) to their audience. In Drama, students learn how to produce as well as act in a play. They also are introduced to work in choric speaking and readers’ theatre.
